Ready to bring more vitality into your sessions? Psychodrama offers a wide array of action-oriented techniques that help clients get out of their heads and into their bodies, moving beyond what is possible in traditional talk therapy. This video offers a thorough introduction to the key concepts and methodology of psychodrama, and will prove useful not only for those who facilitate actual psychodramas, but also for more traditional therapists seeking tools and techniques to engage clients in new ways.
Calling on teachings from psychodrama’s founder, J.L. Moreno, master psychodramatist Tobi Klein offers an enriching learning experience by directing three live psychodramas while simultaneously teaching viewers the how-to’s. Her demonstrations and explanations highlight how compelling, cathartic, and effective this approach can be.
By watching this video, you will:
- Learn how to direct psychodramas that allow clients to have corrective emotional experiences and see their conflicts in a new light
- Understand the three stages and five personae core to Klein’s approach
- Identify several key psychodrama techniques, such as doubling and role-reversal
"Psychodrama Unmasked with Tobi Klein is an in-depth and moving testament to the power of psychodrama. In a step-by-step approach the viewer witnesses a master psychodramatist at work as she leads participants to uncover their true dilemma or unresolved conflicts. I highly recommend this video as an essential educational tool providing students and professionals working in the field of psychotherapy with clear and well thought out techniques and explanations about the theory and practice of psychodrama."
-- Yehudit Silverman, Associate Professor, Dept. of Creative Arts Therapies, Concordia University.
"Tobi Klein is a gifted psychodramatist (who studied with Moreno, himself!) and a master teacher of the subject. This excellent educational documentary will give clinicians, educators and students an extremely valuable tool with which to explore and understand the efficacy of the psychodrama method. It is well-crafted and very accessible. A really useful addition to the educational resources for mental health training."
-- Stephen Snow, PhD. Chair and Professor, Dept. of Creative Arts Therapies, Concordia University.
“I love teaching it. I love doing it. I just love everything about it.”
– Tobi Klein on psychodrama
Both playful and profound, one thing that really comes through in this video is how much fun therapy can be! These tools and techniques help clients shift from merely talking about their struggles and relationships to actually enacting them in a way that brings profound shifts, making for a very lively and engaging therapeutic experience. As one participant in the video says, “In the psychodrama I cannot intellectualize away the emotions.”
Klein’s teaching style in this video mirrors that experiential approach, in that Klein doesn’t just talk about psychodrama, she masterfully shows how it’s done with a group of participants. With Klein as the director, the group explores universal themes such as betrayal, loss, grief, guilt, and shame, and viewers get to see how Klein creates scenes that provide opportunities for full expression of each protagonist’s psyche. Most importantly, she demonstrates how to incorporate these techniques to facilitate constructive change and lasting transformation.
If you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to learn a fun and engaging approach, this video is for you!
